The Research and Development Group is made up of representatives from all departments in school from teaching and non-teaching areas. Some members represent more than one department.
The aim of the Research & Development Group
The aim of the group is to share good practice and to raise standards of both teaching and learning within the School.
The objectives
• To utilise current skills of staff at HGS and promote useful professional development for all.
• To create a more cohesive approach to teaching and learning and nurture a culture of shared ownership and teamwork.
Roles and Responsibilities of Group Members
• To attend 6 half termly meetings and an inaugural meeting in the Summer Term as the Training School Initiative is launched.
• To attend a half day mentor training session
• To ensure the effective training and monitoring of trainees.
• To disseminate ideas / information discussed at the R&D meetings via departmental meetings.
• To bring ideas/good practice/ issues for discussion to the table that may have arisen departmentally.
• To take part in “mini research projects” either within HGS or in conjunction with partner HEI’s/ partnership schools.
• To facilitate inter-departmental, effective and innovative practice in Teaching and Learning.
• To assist in the promotion and effective pursuit of the school’s T & L focus as per School Development Plan. (AfL 2007 )
• To ensure effective communication of shared goals throughout the school.
• To volunteer to give presentations of findings to SMT/whole staff meetings/ Hod’s meetings if and as the need arises.
