Intermittent email problems
Created: Sat 4th Sep 10 at 15:32:59

We are currently experiencing some problems with our email service. The service may be interrupted from time to time, and may run on a reduced-features basis for some of the time.

We expect that emails sent to school will be delivered, although some may be delayed. If your  message is urgent then we suggest you consider telephoning the school rather than using email until the service is fully restored.

School email users will notice a limited-services interface for the time being.

Academy Status
Created: Tue 31st Aug 10 at 15:55:50, Last Update: Tue 31st Aug 10 at 15:56:36

Heckmondwike Grammar School will open as a new Academy with effect from 1st September 2010.

The opportunity for outstanding schools to convert to academy status was provided by the coalition government through the Academies Act 2010. The arrangements for funding and governance are very similar to those that applied under the Grant-Maintained status which the school enjoyed from 1989 to 1999.

Governors and senior staff have worked hard throughout the summer holiday to facilitate the change. They are grateful for the support of the DfE and the local authority in helping to meet the legal and commercial requirements.

Heckmondwike Grammar School has been recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding school on four occasions and has a strong reputation for consistently high standards and achievement. The Academy status will have no impact on admissions or the school ethos. The additional freedoms associated with Academy status will enable the governing body to further raise high standards not just in the school but also in the local community.

A big well done to this year's year 11 who broke several records again with their GCSE results. Our 164 students achieved  2041 passes at grade C or better, an average of 12.4 passes per candidate. Almost 90% of the grades awarded were at B or better and 75% of these grades were either A or starred A.

There were some outstanding individual performances. Tanieka Kargwal, Amara Patel, Amirah Valli, Sarah Lucas, Charlotte Burns and Sophie Denton each achieved a remarkable 12 or more A* grades and  Chloe Ashton, Georgina Barry, Rachel Foster, Safiya Gajra, Paul Gape, Joshua Glassett, Airlangga Gunawan, Ashleigh Harwood, James Heseltine, Jonathan Rhodes, Seemeen Sakharkar, Eleanor Tankard and Ali Zafar were each awarded 10 or 11 A* passes.

In total a record 134 students achieved five or more A/A* grades, and 158 students achieved an A* or A grade in at least one subject, results which reflect once again the hard work and dedication of the staff and students . Congratulations!

Congratulations to all our A and AS level students

Congratulations to all our students on achieving some excellent A-level results this year. Our 244 upper sixth students achieved 978 A-level pass grades, and when these were combined with their AS results the average number of passes was almost 4.9 per student (AS grades counting half).

There were 100% pass rates in almost all subjects and the quality of grades achieved was high. Excluding general studies, 85% of results were at grade C or better and 71.4% of these grades were either A*,A or B. There were some outstanding individual performances. Fifty students achieved 3 or more grade A* or A passes, thirty-five students achieved 4 or more grade A* or A passes and fourteen students achieved a remarkable 5 A* or A-grades. Sixty four students, between them, amassed an impressive total of 232 A* or A grades.

Particular congratulations go to Lewis Bartlett, David Lukic, Yajur Shah and Emma Stirk on achieving 4 A* grades.

The average UCAS points score, at 446.7 is our best ever performance and means that the vast majority of our year 13 students have secured places at University. These results reflect a tremendous amount of dedication by the students and staff and represent rich reward for all their hard work - well done!

Reception and Car Park
Created: Wed 10th Feb 10 at 14:14:26, Last Update: Wed 10th Feb 10 at 14:15:24

After the February half term holiday the new Reception and Car Park facilities will be fully operational.    Visitors and parents attending meetings or pupil interviews are asked to report to Reception and are welcome to use the car park, if spaces are available.   Parents collecting sick children should also report to Reception.    In light of the concerns about safeguarding issues and the security of staff and students we would ask that you do not enter the school from any other door unless specifically requested to do so e.g. for shows etc.

Overspill parking is still available in the car park adjacent to the All Weather Games Pitch.

For health and safety reasons parents must not use the car park as a drop off or collection point for students.   The car park area is strictly out of bounds to all students.

Thank you for your co-operation.
